The Damon Difference

Here are Salt and Light Orthodontics, we use the Damon System braces.  This system uses a passive slide mechanism which allows the wires kept within the brackets to move more freely than traditional braces.  This way, there is less friction, permitting the teeth to move quickly and comfortably.

HOW?

Traditional braces use rubber bands that bind or hold wires in place.  These ties/active clips act like a bungee cord, which causes friction and pressure.  Not only can this be more uncomfortable in general, but it can even slow down treatment!  Think of traditional braces like a train track, with your teeth as the train carts; it’s like pulling the train along with a rope.  It works, but the tugging creates more resistance, stops, and starts, making the journey feel bumpy and lengthy!

Damon braces use self-ligating “doors” or tiny, built-in clips that gently hold the wire in place without rubber bands.  This high-technology wire system moves the teeth more quickly, comfortably, and requires fewer adjustments than traditional braces.  Back to our train analogy, the self-ligating doors allow for freer, sleeker movement of the wire, resembling the gliding journey of a monorail train!

OTHER ADVANTAGES OF DAMON BRACES

- Often shorter treatment time due to efficiency and teeth moving faster than with traditional braces

- Cleaner and easier maintenance – no elastic ties/rubber bands means fewer places for plaque to hide!

- Sleeker, more discreet design
